What does HKU offer you
Tutor
In need of a little support? Your tutor is your first point of contact for any practical issues surrounding your studies. See your tutor when your study is not going as you wish it would, or if you feel you need someone to talk to about the things that are going on in your life and studies. Your tutor is there to help you with the practical issues concerning your studies, and can guide the way when there are other matters you need to address.
Student counsellor
Besides your tutor, you can also contact one of HKU’s student counsellors. You can talk to them on all matters that do not directly touch on your study content. Things like personal circumstances or when you for instance feel things can be little too overwhelming for you at times. You can also visit the student counsellor when you feel the need to entrust someone not directly connected to your studies with other personal matters.
Personal circumstances
Studying can at times take a lot out of you. What do you need to study successfully, how do you find a little time for yourself when you need it, and what are you options? We would like to see your study situation optimized despite any personal circumstances that may be at play. Your student counsellor can assist you in this, and are there to advise you or offer facilities where needed.
Student representation
Do you feel you have something to contribute to your studies or to HKU in a wider sense? Do you wish to actively partake in HKU’s representative body (or CMR) for students and employees? Browse your options under Student Representation on the Studentportal or check in with your class representative first.
Confidential Counsellor
Do you feel that some form of conduct you have personally experienced is out of bounds and would you like to share this in a confidential manner? You could consider visiting one of the confidential counsellors. They are here to listen and provide valuable feedback. You can also visit the confidential counsellor with more serious matters regarding interpersonal conduct and behaviour and a safe school environment.
Practical matters
• Service Desk Student Affairs (at Nieuwekade 1) can for instance assist you with enrolment, visa, tuition fees, stay abroad, housing tips, and general finance matters.
• Servicedesk at your location – for practical questions related to exams, schedules and timetables and other location matters.
• Complaints, objections, appeals – HKU has one central office where students can file a complaint, objection or submit an appeal.
• Studentportal is your guide to detailed further information and regulations.
StuW stands for student well-being and is a joint student and HKU collaboration.
